Terms of Use

Last updated: March 6th, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of Friction. By downloading, accessing, or using Friction, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Friction.

1. Purpose of the App

Friction is a self-control and productivity tool designed to help users reduce distractions by blocking selected apps and websites, including through schedule-based and location-based rules. Friction is intended to support personal habit-building and self-management. It is not medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, crisis-response, or emergency-response software.

2. Eligibility

You must be legally permitted to use the app under applicable law and the rules of the Apple App Store. If you are under the age required to enter into a binding agreement in your jurisdiction, you may use Friction only with appropriate permission and supervision. Friction is not directed to children under 13.

3. License

Subject to these Terms and your compliance with them, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use Friction for your personal, non-commercial use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

Friction may offer paid subscriptions or other paid features. Payments, billing, renewals, and cancellations are handled by Apple through your App Store account. Subscription product availability, pricing, free trials, billing periods, and renewal terms will be presented at the time of purchase.

If you purchase a subscription:

  • payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase;
  • subscriptions may automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period;
  • your account may be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current billing period; and
  • you can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings.

If offered, free trial eligibility is determined by Apple and/or the applicable purchase platform.

5. Purchases and Restores

We may use third-party service providers, including RevenueCat, to help validate purchases, restore entitlements, and manage subscription status. Your use of paid features may also be subject to Apple's terms and the terms of those service providers.

6. User Responsibility

You are responsible for how you configure and use Friction, including any app blocking, website blocking, scheduling, notifications, or location-based rules. You understand that:

  • blocking behavior depends in part on Apple system APIs, permissions, and operating system behavior;
  • some features require permissions such as Screen Time authorization, notifications, or location access;
  • if required permissions are denied, revoked, or limited, some functionality may not work as intended; and
  • app blocking and location-based enforcement may not be instantaneous in every circumstance.

7. No Guarantee

We aim to make Friction useful and reliable, but we do not guarantee that the app will always be available, error-free, uninterrupted, or effective for every use case. Friction is a self-management tool, not a guaranteed enforcement, safety, or monitoring system.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • use Friction for unlawful purposes;
  • attempt to reverse engineer, interfere with, disrupt, or misuse the app except as permitted by applicable law;
  • use the app in a way that violates Apple platform rules or the rights of others; or
  • use the app as a substitute for professional medical, mental health, or emergency services.

10. Third-Party Services
